A little reading to begin with
A SAMPLE FROM CHAPTER ONEName the three peripheral roles before choosing a device. The microphone provides audio input, the speaker or headphones provide audio output, and the camera supplies a visual input. A single headset may contain both microphone and headphones, but those are still separate roles in the app. Selecting one does not establish that the other has the intended setting.
Use a fictional laptop with a built-in microphone, internal speakers, an external headset and an optional external camera. Draw the intended route in ordinary words: voice enters through the headset microphone, sound leaves through the headset headphones and the chosen camera supplies the view. This model lets you compare the desired setup with the app's actual device labels. It is not a wiring instruction or hardware compatibility claim.
Inspect available devices through the supported call settings without installing unknown drivers or borrowing access. A device name may be similar to another, and a system default may not represent your present intention. Check the actual selected item for each role. If only the built-in device exists, there is no requirement to buy another peripheral for this lesson.
Distinguish a device being available from it being selected and functioning in the app. A plugged-in headset can coexist with an internal microphone still selected. A selected camera can need an appropriate permission or a supported environment. Learn those states separately before describing a problem as the whole call is broken. Each state suggests a more precise next check.
