A little reading to begin with

A SAMPLE FROM CHAPTER ONE

Start with who uses the room and what else happens there. It may also contain work equipment, storage, care items or a route to another space. List those functions before deciding the room should become a perfectly dark, quiet retreat. Some are necessary; others may be movable.

Ask each adult which environmental issue most interferes with their intended rest. Keep the accounts separate rather than voting on whose preference is correct. One person may need a light for safe movement while another dislikes the brightness. Those needs require an arrangement, not a declaration that the room is badly designed. Record budget, tenancy or access constraints too. The review should begin with the room you actually have and the people whose agreement matters.
