A little reading to begin with

A SAMPLE FROM CHAPTER ONE

Look at the last part of an ordinary evening. Describe what you actually open: work email, school messages, news or a social feed. Then identify the moment when a useful task becomes open-ended. You may begin by checking tomorrow’s arrangements and continue because the next item is available.

Choose one use to address first. “Less phone” is too broad to guide a decision when the phone is also a clock, accessible reader or essential contact channel. A more useful description might be “finish the necessary school check without opening the news feed afterwards”. Keep the required task intact and define its finish. Do not treat the amount of screen use as a diagnosis. The point is to make an ordinary boundary that you can recognise, not calculate a medically correct evening total.
