A little reading to begin with
A SAMPLE FROM CHAPTER ONEBegin with an individual profile for each animal. Use its name, species and a recent photograph where helpful. If two pets look similar, explain the distinction. Do not combine separate feeding or medical instructions under one nickname. Describe ordinary observations without turning them into reassurance: 'usually rests behind the chair' gives context; 'always fine if hiding' may dismiss illness.
Record the current instruction source and date. Remove or clearly retire old versions. An outdated veterinary label can conflict with a new plan. Ask the veterinary team to clarify discrepancies rather than expecting the sitter to choose. Separate required care, familiar routines and optional activities so a favorite blanket does not distract from an essential check.
Use the profile to expose gaps early. Perhaps nobody has recorded the rabbit-experienced clinic or explained the dog's handling needs clearly. Resolve these before departure. A longer document cannot compensate for a caregiver who lacks the necessary competence or visits that cannot meet the animal's needs. Have the sitter explain which animal and instruction the profile describes.
Keep identifying and security information private. The packet may contain an address, access instructions and veterinary records. Give necessary information to the actual caregivers through an appropriate route. Use an anonymised version if you want to demonstrate the worksheet publicly. The aim is an accurate, usable starting point for the handover, not a complete biography that hides the next required action.
