A little reading to begin with
A SAMPLE FROM CHAPTER ONEBegin with a single transaction you can describe. Specify the service or item, quoted selling amount, currency, payment route and intended withdrawal route. If you compare a physical product on one platform with a digital service on another, the headline fee difference may tell you little about your real choice. Use the same task wherever possible.
Choose an ordinary example rather than your largest imagined sale. A fictional service sold for 100 currency units is enough to practice the arithmetic. State whether that selling amount includes any tax collected for a relevant authority or any shipping charge. You are not deciding tax treatment in this exercise; you are making the comparison assumptions visible so you do not count collected money as your own earnings without checking.
Record features that cannot be held constant. One platform may require a subscription while another charges for each listing. One may allow your preferred payout route and another may not. Write the difference rather than forcing both into the same box. An unavailable option should not be shown as a low-cost choice merely because its fee page is attractive.
Keep the question narrow: 'For this transaction and this payout route, what charges can I identify?' Later you can compare ease of use, buyer access and support. Combining all those judgments into one supposed net-earnings number hides uncertainty. A useful first comparison may end with a question for the provider, not a winner. That is still progress because the missing information is named.
