A little reading to begin with

A SAMPLE FROM CHAPTER ONE

Begin with one piece of feedback in its original context. Record the exact comment where you can appropriately do so, the task it concerns and the part of your work associated with it. A sentence in the margin may address one paragraph, while a summary comment may concern the whole submission. Do not treat every comment as a general judgment about all your academic work. Its location and scope matter.

Keep the submitted or reviewed version distinguishable from any later draft through the course’s appropriate arrangements. You need to know what the marker actually read before evaluating a possible change. Do not silently alter the original passage and then ask someone to explain a comment that no longer matches it. This guide does not prescribe a technical version-control system; an approved record of the relevant version and feedback may be enough.

Separate comment, interpretation and question in a small note. “Needs clearer support” is the feedback; “perhaps the claim lacks a specific example” is an interpretation; “which claim needs further support?” is a question. Do not collapse them into an invented instruction. The first result is a traceable entry showing what was actually said and where it applies. It can remain uncertain. You are preparing to use the feedback responsibly, not proving that every marker comment has one obvious meaning or that a brief response contains everything needed for revision.
