A little reading to begin with

A SAMPLE FROM CHAPTER ONE

Look for a point in your day that is reasonably predictable: after putting away shopping, before an evening wash, or during the walk from the bus stop. Attach your invitation to that event rather than an exact time that your shift pattern cannot support. The cue should make remembering easier, not turn your child into another appointment.

Separate connection from practical care without treating practical care as second-rate. Preparing a snack together can be the ritual if your attention is available and your child enjoys it. If you are also answering work calls, call it snack preparation and choose another moment. Ask, "Would you like our little time before dinner or after?" Give two workable choices, then listen to the answer.
